"If there was an award for who hated going to the grocery store, I would win first prize! I don't really know why. I think it's just that I am sensitive to energy and I have experienced a lot of negativity at the grocery store.

Thing is, I KNOW with the energy work that I do, that we are a mirror for what we attract. If we walk into a store already annoyed, we will instantly attract frustrated, irritable people.

So, yesterday, I set an intention to change my attitude before even getting out of my car in the Safeway parking lot.

Upon entering, I grabbed a cart and headed towards the deli section. I put a smile on my face as I asked the woman behind the counter for peppered turkey and some cheese.

Soon, I felt the intensity of a woman and child behind me. Yes, I'm a 'feeler'. This woman had her head buried in her phone. Her 3 yr. old son was making all sorts of attempts to get her attention by picking up and dropping things in the back of the cart. She didn't even flinch.

I smiled at him. He smiled back. His Mom looked up for a second and then put her head back down. I felt sad that she was missing this moment. That she was clearly not present. I kept trying to catch her eye. But, she was not interested.

Then, I noticed a man with only one leg on crutches that wrapped around his elbows. He was pushing a large cardboard box full of chips with one of his crutches. He looked determined.

As people walked around him, he would stop what he was doing, look up, and offer a huge grin. He made a point to say 'hello' to each and EVERY customer within a 20 foot radius.

By the time he pushed the box, carrying dozen of chip bags into the desired place near the prepared foods section, the man seemed out of breath. But, still, he took pride in organizing his Cheetos and Lays. I stared in amazement as he patiently bent down and picked up a few bags that had fallen out of the box container.

This man cared. He smiled. He had one leg.

He seemed so GRATEFUL just to be doing his job.

Just to have a job to do.

I looked back at the woman and child behind me and realized that if I hadn't made a point to be mindful and radiate happiness, I NEVER would have experienced someone reminding me to be thankful for my own TWO LEGS.

Thankful for the simple GIFT of a smile. Thankful for witnessing someone LIVING their JOY....being in the moment.

I felt tears welling up in my eyes.

Ten minutes later, I was in the bakery section. I felt someone trying to get my attention just as I had tried to get the woman at the deli counter's attention only moments before.

I looked up and there he was. Standing on his crutches a few feet from me. The man nodded his head and gifted me with his gorgeous smile as he said, 'hello'.

I felt an appreciation that he noticed me. I said, 'hi' and smiled back.

I took it in. I savored our connection and felt happier than I had in weeks.

As I concluded my shop, I ended up smiling and saying 'hello' to everyone I saw, aisle after aisle, until I was standing in the check out line. This is when the boy bagging my groceries saw my shirt.

He said, "What does Namaste mean?" It was a word scribbled across the front of my pink and gold shirt.

I said, "It means, the peace inside of me honors the peace inside of you."

The boy smiled and said, "Cool." :-)

And, it clicked. That is EXACTLY what that special man was doing as he hobbled around the deli and bakery areas of the grocery store that Monday afternoon.

His peace was honoring the peace inside everyone he met.

Wow. Isn't it amazing that we can create a positive and new experience if we put just a little bit of effort towards changing our thoughts and behaviors?

The Universe responded in a BIG way when I chose to change my thoughts before entering the store. Such a simple action with profound consequences.

WE ARE SUCH POWERFUL CREATURES!!"

The Holiday season can be an incredible time of joy. On the other hand, the Holidays can also be a time of enormous stress, sadness, anger, and countless triggers. Staying mindful and grounded in your body allows you to connect with your Soul's higher vibrational energy.

How can YOU stay centered in order to embrace this magical time of the year? How can you stay in a place of Love and Gratitude?

Here are 15 ways that you can cleanse, balance and protect your energy field:

1.) Practicing Mindfulness- The more present and ‘aware’ you are of your body, mind and environment, the better prepared you are to protect yourself from unwanted energies. If you walk into a location without being mindful, you may unknowingly be blasted with toxic energies! Then, your Soul is vulnerable to absorbing these energies like a sponge. Once this happens, your healthy energy fields can be greatly compromised. Also, being ‘present’ in our bodies allows us to live in gratitude for each moment- even if it is doing the dishes! This gratitude energy instantly shifts our energy into love. Love energy heals ALL! To learn more about living a mindful life, you can Google thousands of books, CD’s and videos. 2.) Visualization meditation- ‘See’ yourself flowing with loving and healing energy. You can either start at your root chakra or your crown chakra. Imagine connecting or ‘plugging into’ the love in the Universe/Source/Divine. Let that love and light ‘fill you up’! Just visualizing yourself filled with positive light energy will cleanse and balance your energies. There are hundreds of visualization meditations on YouTube and books and videos available on the internet to get you started!

*Example of meditation: Sarah’s meditations begin with deep breathing, lighting a green and pink candle, playing soft music and allowing the healing Life Force Energy of the Universe to fill up her entire physical body. She begins by tapping into loving energy in the Universe through the top of her head (crown chakra). She gently lets this love and compassion energy to flow down into each chakra. She ends by visualizing emerald green roots grounding her into the earth. She connects both through her feet and head, becoming One with the light energy in the Universe!

3.) Zip up your bubble- Imagine stepping into a large bubble of golden light each morning. This bubble of light, surrounds and protects you from all of the negative energies in the Universe. It is meant to deflect back to the person or situation any negative energies that do not serve you for your highest good. Use your imagination! What does your bubble of love and light look like? Feel like? There is no ‘wrong’ way to create your bubble of protection. At night, you can unzip your bubble as if you are changing your clothing and leave it next to your bed side, nice and ready for another day!

4.) Utilize the power of stones to clear and protect your energy-The Crystal Bible is a great book to help you identify which stones will help you cleanse, balance and protect your energy field. You can carry specific stones around with your during the day for balance and protection. Stones carry with them an incredible healing energy. They not only absorb your negative energy, but they can absorb any toxic energies in the environment. Carry or wear them to stay balanced and cleansed throughout your day!

5.) Go to the water- Water instantly transmutes negative energy into positive. Baths, hot tubs, lakes, oceans, ponds, streams…it doesn’t matter what kind of water you choose, any kind of water will help you cleanse your energy. Water is excellent for balancing your entire system! And, if you can’t be in or near water, listening to a waterfall or bubbling brook can produce the same benefits!

6.) Ground yourself to earth- Take off your shoes, rub your feet and walk in the grass. Imagine your feet with roots that lead directly into the abundant energy of the earth. These roots are emerald green (Archangel Raphael), the color of healing and peace. Try Reflexology or a foot massage. This will help you circulate this gentle, but powerful energy to the rest of your entire human structure.

7.) Move your Body- Whatever you like to do physically, do it! It doesn't matter if you take a walk, belly dance, practice Yoga, lift weights, swim, hoola-hoop, jump up and down, just move that body of yours for at least 20 minutes a day!

8.) Eat well- You know what you eat that makes you feel good, and what you eat that makes you feel bad. Eat more of what fills your body up with energy and wellness!

9.) Drink Water- Water gets rid of toxins in the body and says 'Hey! Wake up!' It literally offers our body energy and health with each sip you take.

10.) Gift yourself with Body Work- So often we give to others. We put ourselves last in line for the 'feel good' remedies. We tell ourselves, we don't have enough time or money. But, then we spend A LOT of money on co-pays at the Doctor for illnesses related to stress. Make time for various kinds of body work. When we are relaxed, our Soul rejuvenates! Your own home may already have tools you need to massage yourself! Alleviate stress with a $10 foot roller/ golf ball/tennis ball, take a hot Epson salt or jetted bath, use a $5 dollar hand massager on your neck and body that you can get at any Whole Foods or Vitamin Cottage, microwave a heated neck or back wrap and place on tight muscles, etc! There are also many discounted massages offered by massage schools as well as other body work offers online through 'Living Social' and more! Ask the Universe to provide 'hands on' healing for you. You might just be amazed at how many opportunities open up if you simply ask the Universe for help!

11.) Create Your Daily Spiritual Practice- Everyone is different. There is no one way to create a daily practice. Consistency is what is key. If you spend 5 to 15 min. per day connecting with your Soul, you will strengthen and heal your own Spirit. This can vary from, sitting with a candle and taking deep breathes to jogging in your neighborhood. Come up with your Way! I meditate and practice Shamanic journeying and meditation, what is your Way?

12.) Unplug- From EVERYTHING. TV, computer, phone, Kindle, etc. for at least 30 minutes per day. This will reset your inner energy instantly!

13.) Go Outside- Touch a tree. Yes, you heard me right! Touching a tree, plant, bush, flower or nature changes your energy. Want a shift? Walk outside!

14.) Smile- Just smiling opens up your heart chakra. By offering this energy to the world, you will get back the kindness your deeper Soul deserves.

15.) Sterling Silver- Protect yourself from negative energies by wearing sterling silver on your left wrist or finger at all times. It is an old Native American Indian protection tool. If your bracelet falls off or breaks, that means it is time for a new one! The silver absorbs all of the toxic energy and eventually cannot hold anymore.
